ACTS SERIES: WEEK 9 – “SAME POWER AND FIRE”

Acts 10:44-48

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came down on all those who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were amazed because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and declaring the greatness of God. Then Peter responded, 47 Can anyone withhold water and prevent these people from being baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 He commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days.

3 ways to prepare my heart to receive the Holy Spirit

I. Accept that this gift is available for us today.

  • Numbers 11:28-29 – Joshua son of Nun, assistant to Moses since his youth, responded, Moses, my Lord Stop them! But Moses asked him are you jealous on my account? If only all the Lord’s people were prophets and the Lord would place His Spirit on them! Then Moses returned to the camp along with the elders of Israel.
  • Joel 2:28 After this I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will have dreams, and your young men will see visions.
  • Acts 1:4 – While He was with them, he commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise which He said, “you have heard me speak about for John baptized with water but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit…
  • Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.
  • Acts 2:1-4 2 When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying. 3 They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and rested on each one of them. 4 Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them.

Never underestimate the power of your relationship with the Lord

II. Spiritual Hunger draws the anointing on your life.

  • Matthew 5:6 – Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled
  • Psalms 42:2 – My soul thirsts for the living God
  • Psalms 107:9 For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
  • John 4:14 But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
  • Revelation 21:6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty, I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
