We look forward to this special day with you and your loved ones!
Baby and child dedication is a time when parents present their children to the Lord, making a commitment to raise them to know their heavenly Father. It’s an important day to look back upon and remember as a very important step in your lives and the lives of your children.
In the book of Exodus, God commanded the Israelites to dedicate their firstborn to Himself. It was these children, who ended up walking into the promised land (Exodus 13:2). Child dedication is special because we are asking the Lord to have His way with our children; entrusting them into His loving hands.
The Parent's Commitment
Christian parents who dedicate a child are making a promise to the Lord before the church congregation to do everything within their power to raise the child in a godly way — prayerfully — until he or she can make a decision on his or her own to follow God.
Parents who make this vow, or commitment, are instructed to raise the child in the ways of God and not according to their own ways. Some of the responsibilities include teaching and training the child in God's Word, demonstrating practical examples of godliness, disciplining the child according to God's ways, make God's house a priority in their lives and praying earnestly for the child.
The decision to publicly dedicate your child should not be taken lightly, but reverently before the Lord and His people.
What to Expect
To make this day even more memorable, we are requesting that you as the parent write a letter to your child, sharing with them your thoughts on why you are dedicating them to the Lord and your desire for them to know Jesus. After you have completed your letter, we would like to record audio of you reading your letter. The final video will include still photographs of your child as well. We will show the video during the ceremony on Sunday, November 13. Upon your request, you will be given a copy of the video.
Children are a wonderful blessing from the Lord! At Morningstar, we believe that Jesus is the center of a healthy family, and by raising children to know God and His promises, those families become beacons of the light of Christ.
