Men's Camping Trip 2007
The 2007 Men's Camping Trip took place October 19-21 at Spruce Lake Retreat Center in the Poconos. The weekend was an overall success, and can say that no one was hurt physically or mentally during the weekend!
The weather was a little rough on Friday night. In fact, the weather called for "dangerous winds" and "heavy rain". That didn't dissuade us, however, we carried on. Luckily, the management at Spruce Lake gave us mercy, and allowed us to sleep in the conference room that night.
The next two days, the weather was outstanding - Sunny and temperatures go into the mid-70's - balmy by all Pocono October standards. We set up camp - 5 tents for 12 campers. Yes, that's right... we men like to spread out with our electric air mattress pumps and king sized air mattresses and "double wide" sleeping bags!
After camp was set, there was some study time. The topic was "How to Read the Bible". Once that was complete, the men set out on a hike on some treacherous terrain. We scaled cliffs, rivers (OK, maybe streams), and defended ourselves from frogs, ticks and salamander. We survived, however.
Duane and Mike provided a hearty meal at the campsite on Saturday night, and we followed it with a manly game of volleyball. Luckily we only had the court reserved for an hour, because the girls watching were laughing so hard at us, they were having trouble breathing! We followed that with the movie: The Astronaut Farmer.
It was quite an adventure.
