About the Mission
You may be wondering, “Why Honduras?” Morning Star Fellowship has made a committment to missions since our inception in September 2004. For the past three years we have also made a decision to "give away" our Easter offering to different missions around the world. This past Easter it was decided that Honduras would be a place where we as a body could not only give financially, but where we could also go and make a difference.
As a missions team, we will be traveling to a very poor area in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. There is already a pastor in place who has has been meeting on the property where the church is to be built. We will spend a week building a church building as well as ministering to the community though children's outreaches.
If you have one or several of the following skills, you will be great asset to the team:
building; children's ministry; multi-lingual; can lead a time of fellowship and devotional; experience preservation (photo, film, etc.); website updates or sending out regular tweets; general team care and oversight. As you can see, whether you are a skilled laborer or just a willing and able participant there will be something for you to do!
why go?
There is a connection between believers which spans continents, bridges, cultural diversity; and overcomes economic and social barriers. We are family, and they need our help and our resources to accomplish what God has called them to do. This is not a one-time "go in, do a little good, come home feeling good, and move on with our lives" sort of trip. We are striving to build a direct and ongoing connection between a group of believers in Quakertown, PA and a group of believers in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. We'll go there to serve and to learn. This isn't all about the rich Americans going in to "fix" something. This is about two groups of people learning to serve each other and learn from each other by each groups' intention of using the things which God has given to each to serve the needs of the other. For instance, most of us really don't "know" what it is like to put our family and our way of life at risk to begin a new church. We go there to learn how God cares for and supports people who put it all on-the-line. We bring some of our finances and building skills, and perhaps some of our church structure and organization, but we will leave taking with us new ways of viewing life and people.
The trip will cost $1,400.00 which will cover trasportion, lodging and food.
We will be staying at a hotel wich is close to the airport and about ten minutes from our project site.
